ETA3103 high-current flat alligator clip, the toothed design has a stronger grip. Bare alligator clips have no rated voltage because they lack any insulation. ETA manufactures insulating sleeves for most of its clamps; however, these sleeves are intended primarily to protect users working on electrical circuits. The vast majority of the insulators we sell are designed to prevent the clamp from coming into contact with other conductive materials. Typically, the dielectric breakdown voltage of our insulators is at least 3 kV, yet the jaws of most clamps remain fully exposed and pose a potential hazard. Therefore, it is not recommended to connect or disconnect its clamps when the voltage exceeds 42 volts. If the clamp is used in a hand-held testing environment, insulated clamps can be safely employed up to 3 kV. A hand‑held testing environment means that the clamp may only be connected or disconnected when the circuit is de-energized.
The reasons why ETA insulators fail to meet human protection requirements under high voltage are as follows:
-To comply with the requirements of IEC 61010-031, the insulator must be permanently installed (it cannot be opened, closed, or removed).
-Protective guards must be installed at the specified distance to prevent accidental contact with exposed metal parts.
-Finger probes shall not be allowed to come into contact with any exposed current-carrying metal under any angle.
-Clearances and creepage distances must be maintained.
